Facundo’s journey began unexpectedly. He recalls, “When I first applied to Homeland, I was completely unaware of what I was getting into. I was trying to get a programming job and had no idea that interpretation work even existed.” This twist of fate, however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Facundo found a career that not only resonated with his passions but also aligned with his natural inclination to help others. He shares, “I have always been a person who leaves everything to help, and I am fascinated with the idea of speaking English and connecting people that don’t.”

Facundo’s initial experience as an interpreter opened up a world he never knew existed. “Once I started actually interpreting, it was fascinating—a brand-new world,” he says. Ludmila Kobluk’s story with Homeland Language Services began in November 2022 when she applied for an Over-the-Phone Interpreter (OPI) position. Despite initial uncertainties, Ludmila was met with kindness and support from our team, which proved vital as she balanced her new job responsibilities with caring for her young daughter. Ludmila excelled in her role and was soon invited to join our HR team as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. Over the past year, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill, earning her recent promotion to Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist. Ludmila’s main responsibilities include recruiting interpreters globally, liaising between clients and the HR department, and managing various administrative tasks. “My journey at Homeland began in November 2022 when, without much hope, I sent my resume applying to work as an OPI. From the very first moment, everyone I interacted with treated me wonderfully, with patience, and supported me through every part of the process. This meant a lot to me, as when I applied for the job, my young daughter was only eight months old, and I really needed to work. From January to May 2023, I worked and enjoyed my position as an over-the-phone interpreter until one day I received a call from a member of the HR team telling me they had a vacancy for a talent acquisition specialist and that they were interested in interviewing me. That’s how I became part of the HLS staff/family. It has been more than a year since that moment, and now I can proudly and gratefully hold the title of senior talent acquisition specialist. I will be forever grateful to HLS for the place they have provided me, for trusting me, and for allowing me to grow and develop professionally.
My main task is basically to be an octopus , I am in charge of recruiting interpreters globally, I am the point of contact between our clients and the HR department, and I handle a lot of other administrative tasks. Melisa Gaite’s Remarkable Progress
Melisa Gaite joined Homeland Language Services in 2023 as an Over-the-Phone Interpreter. Her passion and dedication quickly caught the attention of the HR team, leading to an opportunity to become a Talent Acquisition Specialist. Melisa’s enthusiasm for recruitment and onboarding new interpreters was evident as she navigated her new role with zeal and proficiency. In addition to her recruitment duties, Melisa’s teaching background made her a perfect fit for the Compliance and Training Specialist role within the Training Department. She found immense joy in guiding new interpreters through their training, watching them evolve and embrace the demands of their profession. Recently, Melisa returned to the Human Resources Department as a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist. Reflecting on her growth, Melisa says, “This company has given me the chance to grow like never before. Nowadays, working with my team feels almost like family. And you know what? There’s nothing more gratifying than working like that.”

I began my career as an Over the Phone Interpreter with Homeland Language Services in 2023. I never imagined how much I would grow since then. While performing my duties as an interpreter, I was given the opportunity to join the staff as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. The journey of learning new things about recruitment was incredibly enriching. I was passionate about seeing how new people navigated their onboarding process until they finally became part of our family of interpreters.

Later, I was promoted to my other passion: being a trainer. I became part of the Training Department as a Compliance and Training Specialist, training all the new agents who aspired to become interpreters. You know, I’m also a teacher, so you can imagine how much I enjoyed watching the candidates transform into interpreters session by session and understand what this profession requires.

Today, I find myself back in the Human Resources Department, now as a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist, with all the experience that this nearly entire year at HLS has given me. This company has given me the chance to grow like never before. And nowadays, working with my team feels almost like family. And you know what? There’s nothing more gratifying than working like that.”

Mastering the Art of Interpretation: Homeland Language Services’ Training for Puerto Rico Interpreters

At Homeland Language Services, we take immense pride in the success of our past projects, reflecting our unwavering dedication to fostering excellence among our interpreters. Our recent project in Puerto Rico stands as a testament to our commitment to elevating our interpreters’ skills, enabling them to become the absolute best in their field.

Project Overview: Transitioning from Consecutive to Simultaneous Interpretation

We embarked on a specialized training program aimed at experienced consecutive interpreters, guiding them through the transition to simultaneous mode. This rigorous training focused on crucial topics such as natural disasters, man-made disasters, cyber-attacks, hazardous materials, public health emergencies, and the medical management of CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive) events.

Comprehensive Training Structure

Our training spanned three weeks, with three 1.5-hour sessions each week, ensuring in-depth coverage of each topic. To accommodate those who needed extra support, we also offered three additional classes, providing ample opportunity for everyone to excel. Our small class size of eight students allowed for personalized attention and tailored feedback from our team of three trainers—myself and two dedicated trainer assistants.

Diverse Learning Resources

To ensure our interpreters received the best possible training, we utilized a variety of resources, including glossaries, flashcards, videos, live practice sessions, and detailed feedback. This multi-faceted approach not only enhanced their learning experience but also ensured they were well-prepared for real-world scenarios.

Certification and Platform Proficiency

Upon completing their first conference, each interpreter received a certificate, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. Moreover, they gained proficiency in using Zoom, particularly the platform’s interpretation settings, a crucial skill in today’s digital age.
